Adidas and MLS to Change Release Schedule

Adidas and MLS to Change Release Schedule

We can confirm that Adidas will not release new MLS Kits at the beginning of 2027. As MLS is set to adopt a European-style schedule, with the season starting in the fall and ending in the spring, the new 2027 kits will instead be released in early summer of 2027, around April to June 2027.

The current 2026 MLS season will be the final campaign operating under the traditional format (running from February to November). Starting in 2027, the league will officially adopt a European-style "Fall-to-Spring" schedule.

To bridge the gap between the two formats, MLS will implement a unique transition period. Here is how the upcoming timeline looks:

  • 2026 MLS Season: Traditional format (February 2026 - November 2026).
  • 2027 Transitional Season: A shortened, temporary tournament (February 2027 - May 2027).
  • 2027-28 MLS Main Season: The new permanent format (Late July 2027 - May 2028).

Historically, Adidas and MLS have always released all new kits in February, just weeks before the season kicks off. But with the main season shifting to a late July start, the traditional release window does not make much sense any more. Adidas and MLS are more or less forced to change it. How will they do?

Unlike other leagues that switched the calendar, Adidas and MLS won't release extra kits. Instead, they decided to delay the launch of the 2027 jerseys until at least April, at the end of the transitional season. This ensures a smooth transitioning to the new launch schedule for the 27-28 season and beyond, which will see the new kits being released at the same time slots as those of European teams - in the summer.
